{"id":770,"date":"2023-07-25T06:04:17","date_gmt":"2023-07-25T06:04:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digitalfueralle.codip.tu-dresden.de\/?p=770"},"modified":"2023-08-24T14:10:01","modified_gmt":"2023-08-24T14:10:01","slug":"selbstgesteuertes-lernen-im-schulunterricht-umsetzen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digitalfueralle.codip.tu-dresden.de\/en\/selbstgesteuertes-lernen-im-schulunterricht-umsetzen\/","title":{"rendered":"Implementing self-directed learning in school lessons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Promoting skills for targeted and effective learning is an increasingly important goal in many schools. <strong>self-directed learning skills<\/strong> are considered an important skill for the future of students. In our research projects and further training, we repeatedly find that these skills cannot be assumed, but rather must be specifically supported. To this end, schools either offer their own subjects - e.g. under the title &quot;Learning to Learn&quot; - or give students help and suggestions directly in the subject lessons.<\/p>\n<p>In educational science, two support approaches are distinguished: the <strong>direct funding<\/strong> through concrete learning opportunities \u2013 such as in the subject \u201cLearning to Learn\u201d \u2013 and the <strong>indirect funding<\/strong> through the use of <strong>methods<\/strong> in subject lessons that offer students opportunities to make decisions and shape didactic and methodological features (so-called dimensions) of the learning process.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_772\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-772\" style=\"width: 1100px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-772\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalfueralle.codip.tu-dresden.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Screenshot-Methodeneinsatz-fuer-das-SGL.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1100\" height=\"618\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-772\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Fig. Differentiation of methods to support self-directed learning (extract from the learning material of the further training)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In our <a href=\"https:\/\/selbstgesteuertes-lernen.de\/\">continuing education opportunities<\/a> We give teachers suggestions and support them in planning and implementing their own teaching concepts with elements of self-directed learning. The teachers always surprise us with the creativity and variety of their implementation ideas. In May we published a blog post <a title=\"https:\/\/digitalfueralle.codip.tu-dresden.de\/?p=734\" contenteditable=\"false\" href=\"https:\/\/digitalfueralle.codip.tu-dresden.de\/?p=734\">successful implementation examples from a recent teacher training course<\/a> in East Belgium, which ran from December 2022 to May 2023. Shortly afterwards, we received requests asking whether we could share further examples and make them available as inspiration for other teachers. We are happy to comply with this request and present some excerpts from teaching concepts with self-management options that were developed in 2021 in a training course for teachers from East Belgian secondary schools and that, in our opinion, were particularly successful.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of concepts that students <strong>Choice of learning content and materials<\/strong> make possible:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On the topic of \u201crhymes and rhetorical devices\u201d, the students were given different materials (e.g. explanatory videos and texts), which they supplemented with materials they had researched themselves and from which they could choose how they wanted to work out the theoretical foundations. They then used their work to create a <em>self-selected poem<\/em> to analyze.<\/li>\n<li>To work on the topic of \u201cEvolution\u201d, the students were allowed to choose <em>which living being<\/em> they want to demonstrate the theory of evolution in an exemplary manner. At the end, all of the students&#039; work was presented in a jointly developed <em>board game<\/em> merged.<\/li>\n<li>As part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/selbstgesteuertes-lernen.de\/enzyklopaedie\/projektarbeit\/\">project work<\/a> On the topic of \u201cminorities\u201d, the students created an advertising campaign with <em>posters<\/em>to access a <em>self-selected group of disadvantaged people<\/em> to draw attention to.\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_771\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-771\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-771\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalfueralle.codip.tu-dresden.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Plakate-Ausstellung.jpg\" alt=\"Eine gr\u00fcn gestrichene Wand, darauf befestigt sind zwei Plakate, die sich mit dem Thema Toleranz gg\u00fc. Minderheiten besch\u00e4ftigen\" width=\"750\" height=\"563\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-771\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Caption: Exhibition of posters created by the students in the school building (Photo: J\u00e9r\u00f4me Girkes). <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples of concepts that have a <strong>learning support and advice<\/strong> integrate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In one class <em>fixed &quot;office hours&quot;<\/em> (such as every Thursday) <em>for individual learning conversations<\/em> introduced with the teacher.<\/li>\n<li>In the German subject, a teacher <em>self-assessment forms<\/em> available to help students assess their own strengths and weaknesses. They can be compared with the framework plan. Based on their assessments, the students first formulated their own learning goals. They then received <em>consultation<\/em> feedback from the teacher and <em>planned<\/em> with her <em>accompanying their learning path<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>A teacher provided the students with <em>Opportunities for <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/selbstgesteuertes-lernen.de\/enzyklopaedie\/selbstkontrolle-reflexion\/\"><em>self-reflection<\/em><\/a> after completing the task. Depending on the result of the self-assessment, the students received <em>Recommendations for the use of additional materials<\/em>to specifically address their learning needs or to deepen their skills and abilities.<\/li>\n<li>A teacher encouraged her students to create their own <a href=\"https:\/\/selbstgesteuertes-lernen.de\/enzyklopaedie\/lerntagebuch\/\"><em>learning diaries<\/em><\/a> in which they documented and reflected on their experiences and progress in learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_773\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-773\" style=\"width: 1100px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-773\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalfueralle.codip.tu-dresden.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Screenshot-Reflexion.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1100\" height=\"618\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-773\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Fig. Supporting reflection as a task of teachers in their role as learning support and advice (extract from the learning material of the further training)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Examples of concepts that <strong>didactic principles<\/strong> to stimulate self-directed learning processes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>By preparing her subject in the form of an Easter bunny race, a domino game and a word search, a teacher encouraged her students to <em>playful learning<\/em><\/li>\n<li>A teacher encouraged the <em>discovery learning<\/em>by planning and implementing a station work in biology class in which the students could explore the five senses themselves with the help of small experiments and document their experiences.<\/li>\n<li>Um <em>social learning<\/em> To facilitate this, a teacher led a <a href=\"https:\/\/selbstgesteuertes-lernen.de\/enzyklopaedie\/leittexte\/\">main text<\/a> targeted team and group activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_784\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-784\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-784\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalfueralle.codip.tu-dresden.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/SGL_Braille.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"839\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-784\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Implementation of learning stations for discovery learning in biology lessons (Photo: Sandrine Bindels)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Examples of concepts that <strong>methods<\/strong> to indirectly promote self-directed learning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A teacher prepared a <a href=\"https:\/\/selbstgesteuertes-lernen.de\/enzyklopaedie\/webquest\/\">webquest<\/a> through which they acquired knowledge on the subject of electrochemistry through guided internet research.<\/li>\n<li>In order to find an answer to the question \u201cIs it okay to have sex at the age of 13?\u201d, a teacher provided her class with an extensive collection of materials as <a href=\"https:\/\/selbstgesteuertes-lernen.de\/enzyklopaedie\/lernquellenpool\/\">learning resource pool<\/a> available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The selection of examples makes it clear that the teachers developed concepts for many different subjects. When implementing them, many aspects and processes were initially unfamiliar to them as well as to the students. In the end, however, all teachers were satisfied with their pilot projects and wanted to develop the concepts further and adapt them for other grades and subjects.
